Sally’s Burden March (SBM)
What is SBM?
SBM is an endurance event where you ruck with a weighted backpack, rucksack, fanny pack and carry an extra burden weight. Anyone who has taken the PATHFINDER Ruck Training Programs will recognize this as a version of the Coupon Ruck Challenge. The weight in your ruck has a suggested weight of 10 lbs if you are under 150 lbs. and if you are over 150 lbs. carry 20 lbs in your ruck. This is the GORUCK light requirements. If you ruck with more weight, feel free to use what you are used to.
For this challenge you will ruck 10 miles and every 2 miles you will stop in a place that is safe (e.g. not in the middle of the street) , discard your burden weight for a few moments and play Moby’s Flower. Any time you hear “bring sally up” you raise your ruck in the air (like you just don’t care). Anytime you hear “bring sally down”, the ruck rests in front of you (off the ground). When the song is over, you start rucking again with your burden weight.
This event is a qualifier to gain access to Beasts Endurance program. Acquiring access to Beasts Endurance gives you access to invite only, micro-brewed events, direct input on events, designs, ideas, etc and much more! To qualify, you will need to submit proof of completion with a GPX file in your even log at BeastsChallenge.com.
This is an item of your choosing. It can be a log, brute force bag, a slosh pipe, be creative.
The entry for the 2020 Sally's Burden March is $10 for US and Canada, $15 everywhere else.
Performing this Event Solo
If you are tackling this even solo, please limit the burden weight to:
* 10 - 15 lbs if you identify as female (or you can simply use the male weight, I’m not the boss of you)
* 20 - 30 lbs if you identify as male
Do not carry the burden weight the entire time. If done in a group, they will be able to pass around the weight or share the load. Since there is no one to share with, ditch the burden for no less than half the route.
Performing this Event as a Team
If you are tackling this with a group of people, please limit the burden weight to:
* 40 lbs for every 2 people in the group
While performing SBM, share the load between the group. Have you ever performed a tree trunk carry during a Spartan Hurricane Heat or GORUCK event? This is similar. Rotate in an out as needed. Can be performed in pairs, threes or however you want to split it up.
Anyone under 18 performing?
The above weight limits are gone for anyone under 18. Use whatever weight is a challenge. Have fun with the weight. Use Teddy Bears, books, water bottles.. you get the idea.
